Fort McMurray: Here’s How You Can Help

Wildfires have ravaged Fort McMurray in Alberta in the last few days. Reports note that the fire has now grown to nearly eight times its initial size and is spreading south, forcing even more evacuations after 90,000 people fled the city.

We are deeply saddened to hear reports of how people have had to leave all their belongings behind and are left with nothing on their backs.

As residents of Fort McMurray struggle to deal with this devastation, we can come together and make a difference. PayPal would like to make it easy for you to donate to those affected.

From today through May 31, 2016, PayPal Canada will donate the fees for all gifts through our platform to the Canadian Red Cross Society for their Alberta Fires Appeal. This means that 100% of your donations will benefit the Canadian Red Cross Society, which is working to provide emergency shelter, medical supplies, water and food.

Your donation dollars will go even further as the provincial government in Alberta is matching Red Cross donations up to a cap of $2 million. The federal government also announced today that they will match all private donations made to the Red Cross to help the thousands of people who have been displaced by the wildfires in the Fort McMurray area.

You can also donate online through PayPal to other charities supporting relief efforts like the Wood Buffalo Food Bank Association, Calgary Humane Society, Edmonton Humane Society and The Salvation Army in Canada.

Our thoughts are with all of those affected in Fort McMurray and nearby areas. We urge you to join us in giving people the help they need during this emergency.
