Help build a better tomorrow for Syrian Refugees in Canada
Today is World Refugee Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness of the situation of refugees throughout the world observed on June 20th each year.
Syria's civil war is said to be one of the worst humanitarian crisis of our times with 13.5 million people needing humanitarian assistance. According to the United Nations, nearly 4.8 million Syrians are refugees, and 6.5 million are displaced within Syria; half of those affected are children. More than 27,000 Syrian refugees are now in Canada and there is a lot of work that needs to be done by our communities to help these families integrate into our society.
Teaming up with Community Foundations of Canada, we are encouraging our PayPal community to contribute to the Welcome Fund for Syrian Refugees. Established by Community Foundations of Canada, this fund helps to provide housing, job training and skills development to support refugees from Syria as they settle into communities across Canada.
PayPal users in Canada can
donate nowand we will add an extra 1% for every contribution made via PayPal from June 20th until July 4th, 2016 (terms apply).
“As we continue to welcome and settle refugees into communities across Canada, we all have a role to play in helping individuals and families feel like they belong,” shared JP Bervoets, Vice President with Community Foundations of Canada. “Our partnership with PayPal, centred around a national campaign to support the Welcome Fund for Syrian Refugees, builds upon a collective community-driven effort to give our new neighbours a fresh start.”
From supporting relief efforts for tragic events in
Fort McMurray, to
earthquake relief efforts in Nepal, we at PayPal, are deeply committed to harnessing the power of our people, technology and scale to build a global network for good that inspires and empowers – people, charities and global brands – to take action. Last year, generous
Canadians raised nearly $60 million from November 27th to December 31st, 2015 via PayPal for charitable causes.
I hope you join us this World Refugee Day and beyond to help build a brighter tomorrow for refugee families in our country.
