Smart Tones Media wins 2017 Startup Zone Pitch Competition at Dx3
SmartTones Media offers advertisers immediate audience engagement using an inaudible tone that is emitted during audio ads. This sound triggers an offer on the ad viewer’s smartphone. SmartTones' highly-targeted method of advertising allows for the collection of data on what is seen by who and exactly how they respond. By layering in engaging smartphone ads, SmartTones empowers advertisers to immediately interact with the potential shopper in order to help drive checkout.
Out of the 35 startups featured at PayPal’s Startup Zone, 10 competed in the pitch competition on Wednesday, March 8th, judged by Douglas Soltys from

Dx3 is Canada’s largest technology event and has been held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre every March since 2012. The conference is a platform to showcase, experiment with, and push the boundaries of what’s next for retail technology, and PayPal has been a sponsor of Dx3 for the past five years. This is our second year hosting the PayPal Startup Zone and pitch competition.
PayPal’s 2017 Startup Zone featured 35 startups from across Canada, adding 10 more startups to the roster compared to last year. This year, we teamed up with
Communitech,
DMZ and the
Toronto Founder Institute to select top emerging talent from startups like
Schema App,
erplain, and
Reword.ly. The featured startups are disruptors in their own space and reflect a diverse set of solutions that span well beyond digital or mobile payments.
